Kevin Fowler
One
listen to Kevin Fowler’s latest release, Beer, Bait And Ammo, and everyone seems
to ask the same question: “ How do you go from playing in a hard rock band with
a gold record to writing and performing great country music without missing a
beat?”
The early part of Fowler’s musical career was not spent playing honky tonks and dance halls as it is today. In 1993, Fowler was playing lead guitar in Dangerous Toys, a hard rock hair band with two #1 videos on MTV and a gold record. Fowler says, “ I have simply come full circle.” Born and raised in Amarillo, Texas, his first musical exposure was to 70’s country music on the local AM radio station.
By 1995, he left Dangerous Toys to start his own group called Thunderfoot, a hard-edged southern rock band. Thunderfoot released its first CD, Southern Discomfort, on Perris Records in 1995. The album sold well in both Europe and the U.S., but Kevin yearned to return to his country roots and to his father’s music he had grown up on. Fowler decided to fire himself from the band he had founded, and took off a year to write and record his debut country record, One For The Road.
One For The Road, shocked and amazed both the music industry and critics alike. Fowler’s ability to shift gears so smoothly even surprised the most critical of all, his peers. “ A genuinely impressive crossover”- The Austin Chronicle. “One For The Road shows Fowler’s savvy of the music biz by his ability to effortlessly crossover with intact hit songwriting…” Arena Magazine; “ From the cover to the last song, this CD is a quality piece of work…” Country Line Magazine
Fowler’s latest release, Beer Bait And Ammo, has been one of the lead dogs in the newly revived "Texas Music Revolution". With thousands of CD’s sold, and sold out venues across Texas. Fowler is achieving recognition and stature few independent artist achieve. Fowler has been a staple on the Best In Texas Music Chart, (monitors radio airplay on over 70 stations throughout Texas), with four singles charting since its inception. Both Nashville and Hollywood are seeing the dust that Fowler is stirring up in Texas. “ I have been playing that song (Beer Bait And Ammo) all over the country, and every time, everyone goes wild”, says Mark Chesnutt. Sony Pictures licensed four of Fowler’s songs, and cast him and his band as the house band for the movie Lone Star State Of Mind, scheduled for nationwide release in 2002.
Even with all the radio success Fowler has encountered, his live performance is where this guy really stands out from the crowd. His shows are very upbeat with an emphasis on beer drinkin’, hell raisin’, and getting’ rowdy. If he is touring anywhere in your area, be sure to catch his show and see what the buzz is all about.
