Lead Canadian Country Music Awards Nominees 2001 Event
CALGARY,
Alberta, Canada (July 31, 2001) Celebrating its 25th Anniversary, the Canadian
Country Music Association (CCMA) has announced the Year 2001 Nominees for the
Canadian Country Music Awards. Headlining the list with multiple
nominations and setting a precedent in her inaugural year of eligibility is
native Albertan Carolyn Dawn Johnson who is up for a total of ten CCMA Awards.
Other artists with multiple nominations in various categories include Terri
Clark with six nominations; Ontario's Jason McCoy received five nominations; 16
year-old Adam Gregory of Edmonton earned four nominations with his major label
debut; and indie artist Lisa Brokop collected a total of five nominations,
including Album of the Year for her current project Undeniable, Female Artist,
and Independent Female Artist. Mirroring this accomplishment is Jamie
Warren with three nominations including both Male Artist and Male Independent
Artist of the Year, along with Independent Song of the Year.
The CCMA Awards Show also includes two fan-voted awards. The TELUS
Mobility Fans' Choice Award allows fans to call in to vote from this year's list
of nominees: Paul Brandt, Terri Clark, Carolyn Dawn Johnson, Jason McCoy,
and The Wilkinsons. Beginning August 1 and ending September 9, Canadian Country
Music fans may participate in the voting process by calling 900-870-CCMA or via
their TELUS Mobility Web ready wireless phone to support the artist nominee of
their choice. Internet voting will also be available, beginning August 1, at
www.ccma.org /or/ www.TELUScountry.com.
Year 2001 marks the addition of a new category to the program, the Roots Artist
or Group of the Year Award. The nominees in this category are a mix of
well-known artists such as Scotty Campbell and The Mike Plume Band.
The awards presentation is the high point of the country music year at the close
of Canadian Country Music Week each September. The Year 2001 Awards show
will be held Monday, September 10, 2001 at Calgary's Pengrowth Saddledome.
The Awards show will feature appearances by Canadian icons Anne Murray and
Gordon Lightfoot and showcase artists and performers from prior years as well as
some special surprises. This yearıs show will be broadcast live on CBC
and CMT in the United States with a later re-broadcast by CMT--Canada.
Canadian Country Music Week-2001 begins September 7, 2001. Tickets
