(LoneStar - Texas Music Group)

100% pure, unadulterated, Texas style dance hall honky honk!! That's what Johnny Bush has accomplished in recording this CD. A mix of old chestnuts and contemporary fare that fit together seamlessly.

A remake of his 1972 song Green Snakes (On The Ceiling) is here, primarily due to the fact it's become a huge cult favorite with the college crowd, something which baffles Johnny, given the subject matter- a guy going through the DTs. He may not quite understand it, but no matter, he's pleased that they love it.

Johnny is in fine voice on this CD where he tears through some classics: Harlan Howard's "I Wish That I Could Fall In Love Today," which became a Ray Price standard. He nails the pure honky tonk of Jerry Irby's "Driving Nails (In My Coffin)" made popular by Floyd Tillman. He dedicates Cindy Walker's "The Next Voice You Hear" to the great Hank Snow. He shuffles his way through "He Don't Deserve You Any More" written by Artie Lange & Buck Owens. Sanger D. Shafer's "Rainbow In Daddy's Eyes" is an all out, pure country weeper. He gives a great reading of what he calls the best song to come out of the New Country era- the Monty Holmes penned "When Did You Stop Lovin' Me?," originally recorded by George Strait for the Pure Country soundtrack. "Dos Tacos" is a romping Tex-Mex polka tune that's pure fun about one poor man's comedy of errors.

The highlights of this CD are "Cheatin' Fire" about a love triangle, sung with Leona Williams and Justin Trevino, "Nobody's Business (But My Own)" a duet with Kate McCarthy, and the rockabilly treatment given to Moon Mullican's "The Pipeliner Blues."

The rest of the CD is rounded out with Hank Locklin's "Glory Train (Holy Train)," Freddy Power's "The Truth About You" and the old Moon Mulican hit "You Don't Have To Be A Baby To Cry."

There's not a single misstep on this whole CD and is pure enjoyment from start to finish. If you're lucky enough to grab a copy of the first pressing (of 3000), you're in for an extra treat. Included is a 9 song bonus CD of a 1962 demo session that includes Johnny on vocals, Willie Nelson on guitar and Tommy Morell on steel. A true treasure and Texas country at it's best!!
