(Blind Nello) Texas singer songwriter Kevin
Deal writes in the tradition of fellow Texas artist Steve Earle. On his
third release, Kevin shows he's a skilled songwriter, walking the line
between humor and sentiment, without getting heavy handed with either.
"My Father's Redneck" tells the story of his
father's disdain for long haired hippies and their music, his own
teenage rebellion of growing his hair long and listening to loud
music, then as time rolls on and he grows older, about cutting his hair
and cursing the younger generation's music. "One Good Ride" is the tale
of a hitchhiker wanting desperately to get home for Christmas night, and
watches as the last truck in sight passes him by. Title track, "Kiss On
The Breeze" is a Tex-Mex flavored story of a free spirit in search of
his dream. "The Day The Blues Died" describes the effect Stevie Ray
Vaughan's tragic death had on both himself and the Texas music scene.
Producer Lloyd Maines jumps in with some fine blues licks in a salute to
Stevie. "The Phone" is a ballad that paints a lonely picture of a man
waiting for a call that never comes.
Another very solid effort of strong
songwriting and vocals that run the emotional gamut by Kevin.
