It
was hard to find information on this group at first. I was listening to
this disc and enjoying the heck out of it, but I received absolutely no
information on it, and when I did a search for the band name, I found
several groups who call themselves "The Little Rock Band." So I searched
for the album title, and it was a bull's-eye. While, honestly speaking,
this disc stands just fine with no information, it's rather like hearing a
song on the radio that they never announce the title and artist; and it's
great to find out a little background on this fun, funky little collection
of songs.
The Little Rock Band are Gary and Debbie Parker, a married couple out of
Ohio, and they have a warm, real, fresh sound. Debbie's bright soprano is a
true delight to listen to. Gary's crisp vocals are a wonderful compliment.
She plays piano, he plays a smokin' guitar. And the songs? Well, they
couldn't have chosen much better in deciding to release an album of songs
all written by songsmith William Robert Bradley. Ol' Bill knows how to pen
a country song, and he joins the duo on "King and Queen of Cargo," his deep
and burly truck-drivin'-man spoken vocals reminiscent of the greats of
truckin' songs from days gone by. The songs are all fun, sharp, and fun to
listen to. It's solid country music, every track just tremendous. Right
from the opening square dance tune, "Marriage Go Round," it's clear this
disc is gonna be a winner.
"A 'Bill' Collection" is The Little Rock Band's third album. Traditional
and Americana stations should be all over this one, and rightly so. This is
as country as it gets.
Last Word: Seventeen terrific songs, great singing and
fantastic playing, you can't get much better than that. Debbie and Gary
know what they're doing when it comes to making country music.
Standout tracks: Marriage Go Round; King and Queen of Cargo;
A Worst Best Friend; Rodeo Cowboys
