Stay tuned for Week #4 of TCB's Best of Texas Month!

We'll look at the career of Lloyd Maines and recall some of the great Texas country music legends as well as profile a few up and coming artists.

(Compadre Records) What we have here with Brewed In Texas, is a CD that brings together some of the best and most popular songs put out over the past few years, that revolve around the theme of drinking. Toss in a half dozen previously unreleased songs by a few of today's hottest acts, and a couple of up and comers, and what do you get? As Jason Boland says in the closing lines of the CD- "Gentlemen start your livers..."  It's an instant party in a jewel case- the perfect CD for cruisin' down the highway with the windows wide open and the volume cranked up full throttle, not to mention, a sure hit at any party.

ONE TO WATCH!

JASON ALLEN

Dedicated to the memory of Pappy Daily, the first project on D Records since 1975,in the great Daily family tradition, has all the sounds of a sure fire hit.

Jason caught the ear of Wes Daily of Glad Music Company while playing in a local club. Wes ended up taking Jason under his wing and eventually decided to give the music business another chance, restarting his grandfather's renowned record label to showcase Jason's debut album.

The album, 'Something I Dreamed',  D Records first release since the Ace in the Hole 1975 D label singles, has a little something for everyone; from the straight ahead honky tonk of Body and Fender Man, the two-stepping charm of Lucky Arms, to the bluesy Love Me, it's album more than worthy of it's fair share of radio airplay.

Reminiscent of a young, energetic George Strait, the Pasadena, Texas native is hovering just above the top 40 of the Texas Country Music chart with a song ironically penned by the Texas legend early in his career. George Strait penned the catchy Texas swing number, "I Can't See Texas From Here', for his 1982 'Strait From the Heart' album and Jason revives it in 2002 with style.

Particularly notable on the project are Next In Line - with it's ironic twist of a country classic storyline, a man waits while the woman of his dreams drowns her sorrows, while trying to forget a love lost and Something I Dreamed that's classic Harlan Howard from the straight ahead country intro to the superb phrasing that's almost a lost art in today's songwriting .

The contributions of musicians Tommy Detamore (steel), Bobby Flores (fiddle) and Ronnie Huckaby (piano) undeniably stand out as one of the album's highlights. Solid throughout the project, they stand above the crowd in 'Being Loved Like This'. Tommy might as well have been listed as Jason's duet partner on Doggone Pity and the steel guitar echoes Jason's  vocals as well as any duet partner in the sorrowful 'Love Don't Get Much Colder Than This'

With a who's who roster of contributing songwriters (Clay Blaker, Roger Brown, Paul Overstreet, Curtis Wayne, Aaron Barker, Harlan Howard), the producing talents of Clay Blaker and Wes Daily and the solid back up of some of Texas greatest players, the album is sure to please country fans that have been feeling a little lost doing the mainstream shuffle.
